Job Description:
We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated organizer to join CALEB’s staff to lead community engagement for the newly established Tennessee Valley Community Land Trust. The position involves local leadership development, internal organizing, and community organizing.
We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated organizer to join CALEB’s staff to lead community engagement for the newly established Tennessee Valley Community Land Trust. The position involves local leadership development, internal organizing, and community organizing.
Responsibilities
- Build one-on-one relationships
- Identify, recruit, and develop leaders for CALEB’s Economic Mobility Task Force
- Build and strengthen relationships with residents, building leadership, and stakeholders to increase involvement in governance of Tennessee Valley Community Land Trust (TVCLT)
- Facilitate a team to meet community engagement goals thru community activities, events, etc.
- Grassroots fundraising and grant writing
- Develop communication strategies to share the CLT model, its benefits, and its progress with the broader community.
- Act as liaison with TVCLT Director and community partners, including Chattanooga Neighborhood Enterprise and the Footprint Foundation’s Buzz Network
- Conduct individual and group meetings to grow the base of TVCLT members and supporters
- Accurate recording of work time and purpose
- Weekly supervisory and staff meetings with Organizing Director
Qualifications
- Belief in community organizing as a means to improve community development
- A passion for community land stewardship and affordable housing.
- Knowledge of the CLT model and other cooperative or shared equity models
- Excellent communication skills including active listening and interpersonal skills
- Willingness to work long and flexible hours, as well as some weekday evenings and weekends
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and within a team
- Good time management skills; ability to handle a variety of projects simultaneously; ability to problem-solve
- Meeting facilitation skills
- Preference given to candidates with at least two years of experience in community organizing,housing advocacy, or working with diverse communities
