About

What We Do

The purpose of CALEB is to bring together an institutional coalition of faith-based, labor, and other community organizations in order that their constituents gain a powerful voice in public affairs and issues in the wider community.
CALEB seeks to represent the needs and goals of our community by bringing together different groups who share the same vision for our city and its betterment.  We use our common wants and needs to bring churches, labor unions, nonprofits, and other groups together. By being united, we are able to affect change and win for all people within our city.

Our Goals

  1. ORGANIZE  the residents of our communities to affect desired change in the economic, political, and social institutions of Chattanooga and the surrounding region
  2. MOBILIZE the leadership of clergy and lay persons in Faith-Based and other community organizations to empower the people within their communities
  3. Collectively IDENTIFY ISSUES of concern, work towards an effective resolution, and amplify the power of residents
  4. ENHANCE the quality of life by:
  • Finding common interests between residents of all ages, races, religions, and income groups in order to shape the future of the city for the benefit of all
  • Increasing the number of residents and congregation members who are actively involved in initiating positive change in the Chattanooga region
  • Improving communication and cooperation between area residents of all ages, races, religious and income groups
  • Providing leadership training so that residents can affect the policies that influence their lives.

CALEB's Task Forces

Picture
CALEB members have identified three broad issues that we agree to work on collectively:

  • Criminal Justice
  • Economic Mobility
  • Education Reform

A task force for each issue is made up of members who build campaigns, explore issues, and recommend actions for the broader CALEB community. These campaigns help to build experienced leaders who can work together to increase our ability to make change.
